Bay Ridge Ford Celebrates Grand Opening with International Beauties and Brooklyn Dignitaries

New York, New York – January 10, 2011 – On December 15th, Gary Flom, president and CEO of Bay Ridge Ford, and Veniamin Nilva, Bay Ridge Ford’s chairman, celebrated the ribbon-cutting of one of the first Ford dealerships to open since the recession started at 612 86th Street.


The event drew international beauties, Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete and Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih, as well as local Brooklyn officials, including: Brooklyn State Senator Marty Golden, Executive Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation John Cicerello, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, New York City Council Member Vincent J. Gentile andBrooklyn Community Board 10 District Manager Josephine Beckmann.


During the grand opening ceremony, Mr. Flom’s and Mr. Nilva’s daughters, Tessa Flom and Karina Nilva, along with Miss Universe and Miss USA, presented Debra Garcia, Director of Camp Brooklyn with a $10,000 donation on behalf of Bay Ridge Ford. Camp Brooklyn is a not-for-profit organization that sends Brooklyn kids from low income families to accredited sleep away camps. The dealership’s controller, Joyce L. Hurvich, presented a message from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Marty Markowitz proclaimed the day to be “Bay Ridge Ford Dealership Grand Opening Day in Brooklyn, USA.”


Gary Flom thanked all the Brooklyn officials who helped make the new dealership possible and stated, “It has been my dream to open a business in Brooklyn. I grew up not too far from here and am delighted to have the opportunity to give back to this great community by creating new jobs and providing a great Ford product.” Veniamin Nilva added, “It is an exciting night for all of us here – and for the entire Bay Ridge community – to celebrate one of the first new Ford dealerships.”


Ford Motor Company executives from their Michigan headquarters, including Jim Splendore, New York Region Sales Manager, attended the celebration. Jim Splendore stated, “Ford is delighted to open a showroom in this thriving neighborhood in New York City.” The dealership sold three cars throughout the evening! 


Bay Ridge Ford is a 7,500 square foot showroom situated on a 27,000 square foot lot.  This new dealership provides ample customer parking and space for a large selection of display vehicles.  The showroom is in a highly-trafficked area adjacent to the Gowanus Expressway in Southeast Brooklyn. This area has been described as a key shopping destination for Brooklynites.


The construction and accommodations necessary for this new dealership generated great financial benefits for Brooklyn. As a result of the 50+ new jobs Bay Ridge Ford is in progress of creating, it is estimated that the total five-year net fiscal impact will be $569K. The estimated five-year direct City sales tax revenues is approximately $9M. The dealership is also planning to invest in the Brooklyn Army Terminal site with plans to build an unprecedented service and parts center, generating even more revenue for Brooklyn.
