“No one wants to work at our dealerships or live in our area.” When I heard this from the head of human resources and recruiting for a Honda dealership group, I nearly fell out of my chair. “Joe, our dealership has terrible benefits so I won’t even consider candidates with families. They won’t last.” The person that said this was head of H.R. for a Texas Nissan store. Now I know what you are thinking, “Nothing like that happens at my...

Another NADA convention has come and gone and this NADA, like past conventions, had some great new offerings. Here is just a sample of the new products and services offered at this years show.
One prevalent theme this year was selling to women. The idea of training dealerships to do a better job marketing to women is a sound one, given that studies show women make the majority of automobile purchasing decisions. Three companies I ran across, AskPatty.com, CarTango.com, and CarsDiva.com, were offering to help dealerships train their employees to better market and sell to women.
AskPatty.com provides a training and certification program and, at this years NADA, announced a program to help dealers focus on green vehicles to attract women buyers.
CarTango.com was there too, aggressively pushing their program on the street corners outside the convention center to offer what they call the first female-centric match-making site for car buyers and sellers.
I also ran across a press release for CarsDiva.com, describing an online social network community by, for, and about women in the car business. If you are a female auto salesperson, you should check it out.
In addition to companies looking to help dealers market to women, there were also two companies I discovered that were focused on helping auto dealers do online banner advertising in their own local markets. Check out www.autos.adready.com and www.admission.net/autos to see what it is all about.
If you would like to turn your dealerships utility vehicles into marketing utility vehicles check out SparkTrucks.com. The cargo box, which mounts on a company pickup, features rolling billboards on both sides, and the back can carry up to 165 cubic feet of cargo.
As well as these offerings, there was also a fair number of new vehicles on display at the show, including new vehicles from China soon to be available in the US. If you have not seen the new vehicles manufactured in China, take a look at www.ChamcoAuto.com to see what they are all about.
Chrysler was also showing its Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) with the theme, The Electric Choice Toward Greener Living. Check them out at www.GemCar.com if you want to learn more about Chryslers new vehicles.
