eBay Motors Launches New Car Shopping Experience at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Convention

Experience offers new marketing platform for automotive dealers and manufacturers, while providing up-front value pricing to consumers
ORLANDO, Fla. (NADA, Booth #3043) – February 11, 2010 – eBay Motors, consistently ranked the No. 1 automotive site on the Web*, today launches an online shopping experience for new vehicles, giving auto dealers and manufacturers an alternative channel to market inventory with attractive, up-front pricing to local buyers.
This new car option, powered by Zag.com’s auto-buying platform, allows franchise dealers to target a highly-qualified group of local consumers ready to purchase a new vehicle in a no-haggle environment.  Through this new car offering, nearly 2,700 certified Zag dealers join the eBay Motors family. With the addition of this offering, eBay Motors modifies its homepage to offer shoppers the option to either choose new cars or used cars.
This new offering complements existing selling options for new vehicles offered by eBay Motors, including National Market, which exposes vehicle inventory to more than 10 million unique visitors each month, and Local Market, which allows dealers to reach highly qualified local buyers. Dealers can now choose from a variety of new car selling options on eBay Motors, including auction, fixed price, best offer or an online classified ad to drive leads. Currently, new cars make up about 13 percent of all vehicles sold on eBay Motors.
“eBay Motors offers more options for auto dealers than simply used cars and auctions,” said Nicolas Franchet, senior director, U.S. Vehicles at eBay Motors. “It’s a multi-dimensional marketplace for franchise dealers and OEMs to drive sales and marketing of all vehicles, parts, and services, while offering unparalleled value and selection to consumers.”
Engine for New Car Marketing, Advertising and Promotions
Many dealers, OEMs and advertisers leverage eBay Marketplaces and its 90.1 million active users worldwide to attract and market to automotive shoppers. Individual franchise dealers have offered select  new-car inventory to be featured as part of eBay’s Daily Deal – items featured on a daily basis by select, trusted sellers offering deep discounts. In addition, major automakers such as Honda and Toyota showcase new vehicle advertising on the eBay Motors site. And most recently, eBay Motors and GM partnered to pilot a new-car promotion with select California dealers. The new-car shopping experience unveiled today makes eBay Motors an even more attractive platform for dealers, manufactures and advertisers to reach millions of consumers in the market for new vehicles.
Parts, Accessories and Services Explode on the Web
eBay Motors estimates the automotive parts and accessories category online to be a $4.3 billion market and growing. On eBay Motors alone, a part or accessory sells every second, making it the fastest growing category across all of eBay. This marks an under-the-radar opportunity for dealers and others, offering a rapidly growing added revenue generator.
Famous Rhodes, director, eBay Motors, will host a workshop on this topic at NADA titled Drive Consumers by Building a Better Online Parts Department to learn more about online parts opportunities. For more information on the workshop please visit: http://bit.ly/9LJQ68
